Bible Study for Week of 11.13.06

Hey Everybody!
We're finishing up the series this week as we look at Faith. Faith is the end result of a proper understanding of each of the previous topics. We start with God. We move on to His creation Man. Man falls into sin. The Father sends the Son. The Son dies on the Cross. The Holy Spirit glorifies the Father and the Son. Through grace we receive Faith. It is only through grace that we are saved.

Bible Study Week of 11.06.06

This week were looking at the Person of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the least known person of the Trinity...and often the most misunderstood. We'll take a look at the basic doctrines of the Spirit so that we might have greater appreciation and understanding of His role in our lives...cause without Him we'd be in a world o' trouble.

The Holy Spirit.doc
The Holy Spirit.pdf

For some reason, my hyperlinks did not transfer over into the PDF version of the Bible Study. So, I've posted the Bible Study as a Word document and a PDF document. If you like to use hyperlinks to look up the Scripture references, then you'll want to use the Word (.doc) version. If that isn't important to you, then use the PDF (.pdf) version. If this doesn't make any sense to you, use the PDF (.pdf) version.

Enjoy!!!

NOTE for Bible Study Leaders: We're having a special Outreach to International Students on Friday November 10th. We'll meet at the Library Gallery Room at 2pm. We'll have dinner afterwards. Following dinner, we'll host an American Party in the Commons for our new International Friends. Many International students live in Kentucky for a year or so, but never really meet Americans. This is our chance to make some friends from around the globe. If you want to help plan one of the events, contact Derrick Snyder. Thanks!

Bible Study for Week of 10.29.06

Hey guys! This is Kim. Donny is out of town, so I'm the Blogger for the week. This week we will be talking about Jesus' death on the cross. Adam Strouth will be speaking at CRU on Nov. 2 on the cross. You won't want to miss it!

Here's the link. It's the same format as the study for Jesus Christ.
Uniqueness of Jesus - His Death on the Cross

In case you didn't notice last week, you can work on the Bible Study online and type your answers in the boxes provided and then send it to your email. You can even read the Scripture online by clicking on the verses. It's pretty user-friendly. Hope you enjoy!!!

By the way...for some strange and unknown wrinkle in the fabric of the universe, you cannot email the bible study to an aol email account. Sorry about the inconvenience. Your best bet is to mail it to your uky.edu account. Thanks!

All Leader's Meeting
Monday October 23rd

Topic of the Evening is Discipleship
Discussion will be led by the lovely Kim Friederichsen

Bible Study for Week of 10.23.06

So far we have looked at God's nature. We have seen the crowning glory of His Creation, Man. We have looked at Sin, and why everything is so screwed up. Now...now, we get to God's answer for redeeming all of history for His Glory.
This week's Bible Study and Cru will focus on Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was a historical person. He is fully man, fully God. Through Jesus Christ, we receive the righteousness Christ and he takes the sinfulness of us. All in all, it's a heck of a deal for you and me.

We are going to do a Bible Study written by Dr. Bill Bright, the founder of Campus Crusade. This is the first in a series called, "10 Basic Steps to Christian Maturity." The Bible Study is completely web based. Go to the link, look up the scripture (you just have to click on it and it pops up!), and answer the questions. At the end, it will ask for your name and email. Put your name and email address. Click send. You Bible Study and answers will be emailed to your inbox. Print it off and take that to Bible Study. It's that simple. If you get stumped, call your Bible Study leader. If you're a Bible Study leader and you're stumped, call Donny.

The Uniqueness of Jesus Christ
Sorry, there's no leader's guide this week.
Jesus is the Glory of God - John Piper - This article comes from chapter 2 of his book, Seeing and Savoring Jesus Christ. It is a short but rich look at Jesus Christ. The whole book is wonderful and can be ordered at John Piper's website, Desiring God.
Jesus' Unique Claims about Himself - Greg Koukl - This comes from Stand to Reason, a ministry that specializes in apologetics and defending the faith. It is more an outline than an article, but still quite helpful.

Bible Study for Week of 10.16.06

Sorry I'm late on this one. This week's Bible Study is covering Sin. So far we have looked at God. He is omnipotent, without beginning, all knowing, and loving. We have also looked at Man. We have seen that we are more than evolved mud. We are made in God's image, the crowning glory of His creation. Cool, huh?

This week's study will look at Genesis 3 and Romans 3:9-20. Enjoy.

Bible Study for Week of 10.09.06

This week's topic is Man (I mean the term "man" in the gender neutral sense). We'll look at why God created Man and how we are to respond to being created. I hope that you'll leave Bible Study with an uplifting and humbling portrait of yourself and those with whom you share this little planet.

What is Mankind - The Image of God by Richard Pratt

Richard Pratt was a professor at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL. He recently left his position there to focus his energies with Third Millennium Ministries. The text is lengthy, but really good. I encourage you to read it. Just set aside some time this weekend (you have Friday off) and read it. You'll be smarter and better looking because of it. Don't give me that crap about "I've got too much work," or "I don't have time." You're only kidding yourself.

Bible Study for Week of 10.2.06

This week we are continuing our look at who God is. Our Study is from I John 4:7-21, and is titled "God is Love." I hope you enjoy learning more of who God is and how He works in our lives.
This coming Friday (10/6) is Fall Break, so at CRU we will have an evening of Praise and Worship. I hope you will join us before you head out of town for a much deserved break from classes.

Bible Study for Week of 9.25.06

This week we are starting our new series on the Basics (click here for a pdf of the series overview). We will take the remainder of the Fall semester and look at some of the Basics of Christianity. We will look at God, Man, Sin, Christ, the Cross, the Holy Spirit, and Faith. Hopefully, you will finish this semester with a deeper understanding of each of these topics, which will deepen your love of Christ.

This week we begin by looking at God. It's a huge topic...actually it's an infinite topic, which is somewhat larger than huge. We're going to look at Isaiah 40:12-31.

Bible Study for Week of 9.18.06

Hey Everybody!
Sorry I am delinquent in posting this. Please accept my apologies.

This week at CRU, we'll be taking a retrospective look at the Community 2:8 series and hearing from several students about how they hope to see God work in their lives. It should be a great time.

For Bible Study, we're going to look at what may be a familiar passage. It is the dialogue between Jesus and Nicodemus in John 3:1-18 (here's John 3:16 in Swahili in case you were curious).

New Series for CRU and Bible Study: The BASICS

Some of you have been planning on studying II Corinthians for the rest of the semester. I have been too, but due to some God-ordained issues, we're going to put II Corinthians on the back burner.

Instead we're going to look at the Basics. Click here to see a pdf document detailing the overall vision and plan of the series. I hope that you will be as excited for this as you have been about studying II Corinthians.

This new series will start the week of Sept. 25th.

Lemme know if you have any questions.

Bible Study for Week of 9.11.06

Here is the Bible Study for this week! As part of our series with Community 2:8, we'll be focusing on Community and Fellowship. The text we'll use is Ephesians 4:1-16.

Use the Leader's Guide to prepare to lead a Bible Study. Use the study "Lean on Me" for your students and for the Bible Study that you are in but don't lead. If you lead a Bible Study, I encourage you to print off the "Community" article for each of the dudes or dudettes in your Bible Study. Encourage them to read the article after the CRU talk on Community.

Bible Study for the Week of 9.4.06

Here are some Bible Study Materials for the Week of Sept. 4, 2006.

A note of instruction. I have posted the Bible Study for you to use in your small groups. If you are a leader, you'll want to download both. The first one for you to use in the small group you are in, and the second to use in the small group you lead. On Friday (Lord Willing) I will post a 5 day devotional based on the topic for CRU the following Thursday. For instance, next week's CRU is about Evangelism. The Bible Study below is about Evangelism. The talk at CRU will be about Evangelism. The 5 day devotional guide will begin on this Friday (9.1.06) and run through next Thursday. Some of the questions may be identical to Bible Study questions...some may be different. You may be asked to read the same passage for Bible Study, maybe something different. It's just our little way of keeping you on your toes.

I'm proud of you fellas. You all kept your head on a swivel- Anchorman

The Bible Study is "No One Should Not Hear," based on John 4:4-42. (in case you haven't noticed, you can click on the Scripture reference to see the referenced verse via BibleGateway.com)

Community 2:8

This week at CRU we are starting a series called Community 2:8.

It is based on I Thessalonians 2:8.

"So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you
not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very
dear to us." (I Thess. 2:8 ESV)

We will look at how to express Christ to the University by employing a four fold stategy. The strategy consists of:

1. Prayer
2. Sharing
3. Introduce
4. Invite

This method isn't meant to be something that you can do once, check off your list and say, "OK, I've done my bit for the semester." This is meant to be a lifestyle. For some of us, this will be easy. For others, it will be really difficult (for those keeping track at home, I'm probably in the second group).
We'll be going over this strategy in CRU on Thursday nights and in your Bible Studies during the week. Check back here often, as we are going to start a daily devotion guide that will correspond with your Bible Study and the weekly CRU meeting.

MP3 of the CRU talk from 8.24.06

Here is the audio from the talk at CRU from August 24, 2006.
The text was from II Samuel 9, the speaker was Donny Friederichsen.

The King's Redemption

(note: We're still working out some kinks with the audio recording. There is substantial background humming and hissing in the first half of the talk. The second half of the talk is clearer. If you don't wanna listen because of that, don't worry, you won't hurt my feelings.)

Bible Study for week of Aug 28

Hey guys!

This week we're gonna mainly just hang out and get to know each other a little bit for Bible Studies. But, if you're really hankerin' for some Bible Study use these. This week at CRU we'll talk about Prayer and the role it plays in Expressing Christ to your friends.
